Magistrate Braima Jah of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 in Freetown has sentenced unemployed youth Ishmael Sesay to six months in prison after he was found guilty of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to police records, the theft took place on July 6, 2025, at the Plant Yard of Fourah Bay College in Freetown, where Sesay stole three pieces of eight-foot red-colored zinc sheets. Each sheet was valued at Le 4,500, and the property belonged to the management of Fourah Bay College.
In his ruling, Magistrate Jah affirmed that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, leading to Sesay’s conviction. The magistrate further emphasized that the theft of institutional property hinders development and must be strongly discouraged, which led to the imposition of a custodial sentence.
Sesay was sentenced to six months imprisonment, with no option for a fine.
