Shafumu Smith, an unemployed youth, made his first appearance before Magistrate Josephine Feimata Hinga at Pademba Road Court No.5 in Freetown, facing a charge of larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, on 20th February 2025, at Model New Road in the Western Area, Smith stole one Tecno Spark 2 phone and one gold manual phone, with a total value of three thousand one hundred Leones (3,100), the property of Foday Janneh.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, he pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor, Sergeant 9906 Umu Jalloh, informed the Magistrate that the accused had no previous criminal record.
Smith, who was not legally represented, pleaded with the Magistrate to temper justice with mercy.
Considering the guilty plea and the plea for mercy, Magistrate Hinga sentenced Smith to eighteen months of imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
