Youth Ministry & IOM on Monitoring & Awareness Rising of Youth Tractor Training in Sumbuya Lugbu Chiefdom

This project is targeting 200 youths,*50 youths already completed training, whilst 75 youths are currently on training, another 75 youths will be trained before the end of this year. The project is currently constructing a TVET centre at Sumbuya Lugbu town which will serve the entire country. This is geared towards His Excellency the President Julius Maada Bio vision on Human Capital Development and Skills Training for National Development.

Due to the conflict between trainees and youths of Sumbuya Lugbu Chiefdom concerning the TVET centre and ongoing training on Tractor Operation and Basic Maintenance; the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs enlightened stakeholders and community members of the objectives of the TVET Center located in Sumbuya.

The Hon. Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs expressed to the youth, community members and stakeholders that the construction of the TVET Center in Sumbuya is a Policy directive from HE President Bio’s development agenda and benefit to the community and prosperity.

He urged the youth to embrace the Tractor Operation and Basic Maintenance training which is a life skill training that will change their lives forever.

The Hon. Deputy Minister pleaded to the youths to be disciplined and committed when enrolled in the training program as that will encourage GoSL and IOM to source funding for the sustainability of the project. The community people and the stakeholders applauded the Deputy Minister for the Ministry’s efforts to address the impasse and to bring such a project to their community.

Engineer Lordrick Momoh stated that the training in Tractor Operations and Basic Maintenance is the first formal training in the history of Sierra Leone. He also expressed that the Service Providers are having problems with their tractors because they do not have trained operators. He said the TVET Center can serve as a Talent Pool from where they can recruit their operators to avoid damage.

The Hon. Member of Parliament for the constituency, Habib Faba encouraged community members and stakeholders to take the TVET Centre as their property and render their support to trainees coming from another part of the country. He concluded by thanking the Ministry of Youth Affairs and IOM for such a brave venture in addressing youth unemployment and food insecurity.
