In a powerful demonstration of grassroots leadership, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Sannoh, visited the dynamic communities of Belgium, Peters Brook, and King Jimmy collectively known as BBK to engage directly with young people and assess their pressing needs.
The visit, part of the Ministry’s ongoing nationwide youth outreach program, created an open platform where youth could voice both their concerns and aspirations.
Minister Sannoh was warmly welcomed by enthusiastic residents as he toured the neighborhoods, engaging in frank, on-the-ground discussions with youth leaders and community members.
“This is not just about appearances. It’s about action,” the Minister affirmed during one of the interactive sessions. “We’re here to listen, to learn, and to plan with you not for you.”
Key issues raised by the BBK youth included access to vocational training, employment opportunities, safe recreational spaces, and greater support for community-led development projects. Minister Sannoh assured attendees that their feedback would play a direct role in shaping national youth development strategies and guiding resource allocation.
“Young people must be part of the national conversation. You’re not waiting for opportunities you’re demanding them. And we’re here to deliver together,” he emphasized.
The visit was widely praised by residents, many of whom described it as one of the most sincere and impactful engagements with government leadership in recent memory.
As the Ministry of Youth Affairs continues its outreach across Sierra Leone, the BBK community visit stands out as a model of inclusive, participatory, and responsive youth-centered governance putting young voices at the heart of national development.
