Some youths in Fiama chiefdom Kono District have allegedly planned to demonstrate against cattle owners in the chiefdom.
It could be recalled that sometimes in 2020 to date, crop farmers and cattle owners have been at each other’s throat over land disputes and alleged damage of crops by reckless grazing of the cattle. O
Many farmers had been placed behind bars because they have taken the law into their hands when the cattle destroy their crops in Koidu city.
According to one of the youths, preferring anonymity, crops have been destroyed by cattle, and little or no actions have been taken by the local authorities of the chiefdom.
Notwithstanding, some youths have migrated to Koidu because all the lands meant for farming have been overrun by cattle.
The aggrieved youth allegedly promised to go on the rampage against the cattle rearers to protest the cattle ravage. They said their only source of income is farming.
Some local authorities contacted on the issue have denied knowledge of cattle rearers occupying huge portion of land although some said the cattle reaeres must have got some agreement with their colleague chiefs.
The local authorities that A-Z Newspaper spoke have pleaded with youths not to embark on any strike action yet as they are working assiduously to resolve the issue reported in especially Fiama Chiefdom.
One woman identified as a victim of the circumstance Kumba Momoh said since her husband was arrested and placed at the correctional centre in Koidu, her four children have been withdrawn from school because the rice farm was destroyed by cattle not even a cup of rice was realised from the said farm. She added that she reported the matter to some authorities but no action was taken against the cattle owners instead her husband was arrested.
