China and France should seize opportunities and expand the scope of their cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in his talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Beijing on Thursday.

China and France should consolidate cooperation in traditional fields such as aviation, aerospace and nuclear energy, and tap into the potential for cooperation in areas including the green economy, digital economy, biopharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence and new energy, Xi said.

Noting that both China and France are constructive forces in promoting global multi-polarization and fostering human unity and cooperation, the Chinese president emphasized that the two countries should take on their responsibilities, champion multilateralism and firmly stand on the right side of history in the face of a rapidly changing world.

He also stated that over the past 50 years, China and Europe have enjoyed mutually beneficial and win-win exchanges and cooperation, achieving success together.

The deep integration of supply chains across countries and open cooperation have brought opportunities for development, Xi said, adding that decoupling and severing chains means self-isolation.

Noting protectionism will worsen the international trade environment, Xi said China and the EU should uphold their positioning as partners, and advance cooperation with an open attitude, and ensure that China-Europe relations continue to develop along the correct path of independence, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.

Macron said France attaches great importance to relations with China and firmly adheres to the one-China principle. He added that France is willing to continuously deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides.
