Wusum Stars Football Club has concluded its final training session in preparation for an important Sierra Leone Premier League showdown with the formidable FC Kallon. The session, held at Wusum Field in Makeni, was marked by high energy, sharp focus, and a renewed determination among players and coaching staff. With kickoff just hours away on Thursday, the “Black and Yellow Boys” seem poised to meet the challenge ahead.
This match comes at a pivotal moment for Wusum Stars, who are eager to build on the momentum from a much-needed victory last Sunday. That win, which broke a streak of four games without a win, has rekindled hope among the squad, the coaching team, and their dedicated supporters. Despite recent inconsistencies, the victory provided a significant morale boost, showcasing glimpses of the team’s potential.
Currently positioned 12th in the league standings, Wusum Stars urgently need points to improve their ranking and avoid falling deeper into the relegation zone. In contrast, FC Kallon is on a strong run, sitting in 3rd place. Known for their disciplined play and attacking prowess, FC Kallon presents a tough challenge for Wusum.
During the final training session, all registered players were present, demonstrating a collective readiness to face one of the league’s strongest teams. The atmosphere at Wusum Field was intense yet optimistic, as Head Coach Sidiki “Bra BOSS” Mansaray and his technical staff guided the squad through tactical drills, set-piece routines, and finishing exercises. Emphasis was placed on defensive organization and midfield pressing critical areas for containing FC Kallon’s dynamic offense.
The players appeared physically fit, mentally sharp, and eager to impress in front of their home fans. Key players like winger Alimamy Buya Kamara, midfielder Sulaiman Kamara, and goal-scoring sensation Alie Kandeh Sillah were prominent during training and are expected to start. Sillah, who recently netted his eighth goal of the season, will again be a focal point for the team’s attacking efforts.
After the training session, Coach Mansaray expressed confidence in his team’s readiness.
“We understand the importance of this match. The boys have responded well in training and are motivated to give everything. FC Kallon is a good side, but we have our own strengths, and we will fight for all three points,” he stated.
The first leg between the teams ended in a 1-1 draw at the Approved School Field in Freetown, where Wusum Stars showcased a resilient performance, earning a valuable point. This result has instilled confidence that they can once again hold their own against FC Kallon, especially on home turf.
Support from fans is anticipated in large numbers at Wusum Field, a venue known for being a stronghold for the club in previous seasons. The passionate home supporters are hopeful their presence will inspire the players to deliver a memorable performance, with local community groups, youth football academies, and bike riders’ associations planning to rally behind the team.
Club captain Paul Kamara shared his perspective ahead of the match.
“We know the task ahead of us. FC Kallon is a tough opponent, but we believe in ourselves. Everyone is ready. We are focused, united, and will fight for the badge and for Makeni,” he affirmed.
As kickoff approaches, the atmosphere around the Wusum Stars camp is one of cautious optimism. The players understand the stakes—not just three points, but pride, momentum, and the confidence of their fans. A victory against a top-three side like FC Kallon could serve as a turning point in the season, igniting hopes of a mid-table finish.
The management has urged fans to maintain discipline and support the team respectfully, regardless of the match outcome. In a brief statement, the club’s media team emphasized the importance of unity, sportsmanship, and community pride.
“We are calling on all our supporters to come out peacefully and back the team positively. Let us be the 12th man that drives our boys to victory,” the statement read.
