As the Sierra Leone Premier League comes to a climax with four matches remaining the relegation threat has intensified, Wusum Stars FC on 5th July 2023 defeats Kamboi Eagles by three goals to nil to avoid the relegation threat in the ongoing league.
Issa Tarawallie opened the scoring for a host in the 23rd minute of play and the goal was assisted by Suliaman Kamara who delivered a long gross in the penalty area Issa wasted no time but to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and buried the ball home to give the host the early lead of the match.
The visitors try to bounce back and find the equalizing goal, but the solid defensive work from the Wusum Stars’ defenders tackles all the passes to deny the visitors from scoring a goal in the opening stages of the match.
In the (34) minutes of the first Abdul Bangura double the lead for the host of Wusum Stars as Sulaiman Kamara delivered another pass just out of the penalty box, Abdul Bangura was in the right place at the right time to volley the ball back at the net to give the host the much more desired three points. The win against Kamboi Eagles has now moved them (15) position to 12 places in the log of the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League, while Kamboi Eagles have dropped two places down (15) place.
Wusum Stars wrap up the match with the third goal in the (82) of play as Abdul Bangura scored his brace to help his side secure the vital third point.
In the other matches, the Champions BO Rangers were held away from home by Freetown City Council at the Brima Attougia Field, inform striker Abu Komeh opened the scoring in the first of play, but the host scored the equalizing deep into the end of the first half and then in second there was much to play for but the two sides end the match (1-1) all.
Old Edwardians FC defeated Freetonians FC by a goal to nil and Kassim Turay scored the only goal of the match to help the May Parks boys Grab all three points.
At the Lungi Centre field, Lamboi FC shared a point with Real Republican by (1-1) both goals came in the first half of play.
At the Kailhun Town Field, Lauwa FC defeated Diamond Stars by a goal to nil to move out of the relegation fight to 10th position in the log standing.
At Angola Town Field, Wilberforce Strikers and East End Tigers had to settle for a goalless draw in a crucial encounter that left both sides at the wrong end of the Premier League table.
Wilberforce Strikers’ three remaining matches preserve their Premier League status including home matches against Lamboi FC, and Freetonians FC, and an away trip to Kono to face Diamond Stars on the final day.
The Premier League will continue this weekend across the Country.
