Women’s Empowerment is the Priority of President Bio-Bo Women Asserts

Some women in Bo who identified themselves as ‘Bo Women for Change’ have said that they are now convinced that women’s empowerment is the priority of president Bio after the passing into law the Gender Equality and Empowerment Bill.

Speaking to A-Z Newspaper, members of the Bo women for change said that “some of us were doubting Thomas’s as we held on the opinion that the gender equality and empowerment bill will not be passed into law but the passage into law is a clear testament that President Bio is a talk and do President and in fact deserves the second chance’’.

Hawanatu Kargbo said that the empowerment of the women should not be politicized as every government coming into power makes promises and it expected that the promises should be fulfilled.

Madam Kargbo said that “I am APC but that does not mean I should not praise President Bio and that I  is leading the campaign to ensure that what is the Gender Equality and Empowerment Act, is implemented to the letter’’.

She said that she is a grassroots supporter of the APC but have friends who are SLPP and are part of the Campaign to ensure that women have elective positions in the 2023, adding that they want to see more women in governance whether it is SLPP or APC government.

Bo Women For Change, Madam Kargbo said is apolitical group with women from different political parties but they just want to see women’s empowerment and the voices of women be heard as what men can do women can do it better.

Matta Konneh another member said that they want to thank the Ministry of Gender Affairs and gender activists who have been vociferous to ensuring that the Government implements what is the Truth and Reconciliation Commission recommendations which talks about giving 30% quota to women to have a say in the governance of the country.
