The Southern Region branch of Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) has extended timely financial support to four-month-old Baby Muhammad Bah, who is currently battling a severe spinal condition and undergoing treatment at Connaught Hospital in Freetown.

Born with a congenital spinal defect, Baby Muhammad requires urgent and ongoing medical care. His heart-wrenching story quickly drew the attention of WIMSAL members, who launched an emergency fundraising drive to help ease the financial burden on the family.

The initiative saw contributions pooled from WIMSAL members and generous support from key stakeholders in Bo, including Chief Administrator of the Bo City Council Henry Powell, Assistant Commissioner of Police (South) Fatmata Daboh Kamara, and Assistant Inspector General of Police (South) Brima Kannah. In total, NLe 2,475 was raised and formally handed over to the child’s father.

Overcome with emotion, the father expressed deep gratitude. “This kind gesture from women in the media gives me courage that my child can heal. I am truly thankful,” he said.

During the presentation, the Regional Coordinator of WIMSAL South highlighted that the association’s role extends beyond journalism and holding institutions accountable. She emphasized the media’s moral responsibility to support vulnerable communities and demonstrate compassion through action.

“Today, we are not only telling Baby Muhammad’s story; we are becoming part of his journey to healing,” she remarked.

WIMSAL Southern Region reaffirmed its commitment to similar humanitarian interventions in the future, reiterating that their mission is deeply rooted in advocacy, solidarity, and service to humanity.
