A 29-year-old woman, Isatu Bendu, has been remanded in custody after appearing before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown. She is charged with one count of manslaughter, contrary to law, in connection with the alleged fatal stabbing of her husband, Mustapha Bangura.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 2, 2025, at Kessie Williams Drive, Aberdeen Road, Freetown.
During the proceedings, Inspector P.B. Kallon (15179) of the Congo Cross Police Division testified as the second prosecution witness. Led in evidence by Prosecutor Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai, Inspector Kallon told the court that at approximately 10:55 p.m. on the night of the incident, Dr. Peter Sorie Kamara Cole of No. 6 Cockle Bay, Sir Samuel Lewis Road, brought the accused to the police station and reported the matter.
According to Dr. Cole’s report, the deceased, Mustapha Bangura, had been stabbed in the left side of his chest, causing a severe injury that led to his death. A team of police officers, including Detective Police Constable James E. Soko (13974), visited the crime scene and conducted a thorough investigation.
Statements were obtained from the complainant, eyewitnesses, and the accused, and these were submitted to the court as evidence. Additionally, a death certificate issued by the Chief Examiner at Connaught Hospital was presented.
Due to the seriousness of the offense, Magistrate Jah denied bail and ordered that the accused remain in custody. The matter has been adjourned to June 19, 2025, for further hearing.
