The first accused person charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and other related offenses, Mohamed Kanu has took the witness stand and explained before justice Ivan Ansumana Sesay, that ten police officers including Mr. Karlie threatening to inject him with poisonous substance just to make confessional statement.
Mohamed Kanu and others are before the court for proper trial on three counts charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of small arms and receiving stolen properties.
During the cross examination, the first accused denied having a riffle with serial number UB 86021 with ammunitions. The first accused in continuation of his defense to the court informed that during investigations by the police officers, one Mr. Karlie threatened to kill him if he did not answer to the allegations by injecting him with a poisonous substance. The accused said the police put him under gun point and washed him with pepper spray to confess that he conspired with others to commit the crime.
Before closing the prosecution’s case, state counsel J.S Tucker said both accused persons Mohamed Kanu and Santigue Bundu were with Hassan Kamara who was discharge at the magistrate court before committal of the matter to the high court.
The state counsel produces and tendered the committal warrant and closes his case. The first accused person Mohamed Kanu was given three options to open his defense as he testifies in the dock.
Led by defense counsel Cecilia Tucker the first accused denied conniving with second accused to rob complainants Latifa Senk and Mohamed Senk at Kerry town.
When questioned by the bench as to where the statement was obtained from him, the accused said it was obtained at the hospital. Second accused Santigue Bundu who was represented by defense counsel Cecilia Tucker when given options to defend himself said he relied on his statement made to the police during investigation.
