The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and its agencies, including the National Tourist Board and the Monument and Relics Commission, have successfully concluded the second batch of the Budapest-Bamako Freetown Challenge Rally 2024, which featured 194 participants and 96 vehicles, including motorbikes. The finish line event took place at Gigibonta Car Park, Lumley Beach in Freetown.

Before the finish line event, officials from the Ministry welcomed the participants at various points, including the Sierra Leone-Guinea border at Gbalamuya, Kambia, and Madina Oula routes, before they proceeded to Bureh Beach for an overnight stay.

It’s worth noting that Sierra Leone recently hosted the first batch of 690 rally participants with 300 vehicles. This marks the third time in four years that the finish line event has been hosted in Sierra Leone, demonstrating international confidence in Sierra Leone’s “Explore Freedom” destination and affirming that the country is safe and ready for business.

During the finish line event, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Khadijatu Grace Ahene Kamara, representing Minister Nabeela Tunis, presented certificates of participation to all participants for successfully reaching the finish line. She emphasized that the event showcases the sector’s commitment to promoting domestic tourism and attracting more tourists to the country. Kamara expressed gratitude to the Ministry’s staff, partner agencies, and all those who contributed to the success of the event.

Other notable speakers included the Budapest-Bamako Freetown Rally Coordinator, Andrew Sazbo, and the Honorary Consul for Hungary in Sierra Leone, Jihad N. Eter. The program was chaired by Foday Jalloh, the Director of Culture.

The Budapest-Bamako Freetown Rally aligns with President Bio’s vision to elevate Sierra Leone as an appealing tourist destination, foster cultural exchange, attract foreign direct investment, and generate employment opportunities.
