The Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL) has commenced its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Makein, Bombali District at the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) hall, drawing female media professionals from across the country to discuss pressing issues affecting women in the media industry.
This year’s AGM is held under the theme “The Role of Women in Media and Gender Equality: The Future of Women in Media Sierra Leone.” The event provides a strategic platform for addressing challenges, highlighting opportunities, and formulating policies aimed at fostering gender inclusivity in the media landscape.
The opening session featured powerful keynote addresses from veteran media professionals and gender advocates, emphasising the need for increased female representation in leadership roles. Discussions also focused on the importance of fair and equal opportunities for women in journalism, particularly in decision-making positions.
The meeting includes high-level panel discussions, interactive workshops, and networking sessions, equipping participants with the necessary skills and resources to advance their careers and contribute to a more gender-balanced media sector.
As deliberations continue, stakeholders are expected to propose concrete strategies to enhance the role of female journalists in national development while ensuring gender-responsive reporting in the country.
