The headline is not a death wish, like saying RIP-Rest in Peace to man that has died. Ernest is alive and deserves to be spoken to with enliven words; and this is what I am doing, albeit with razor-sharp precision.
So let nobody get my header twisted; I am actually sharing the sentiment of many who are convinced that the former president is not peaceably conducting himself. The entanglement and drama that the former president is embroiled is not redolent of the ideal retirement conditioning of a man that has served and wants to call it quit.
Let me prove my point for starters. It is very much clear than apparent that Ernest is the reason for the opposition APC debacle. The marathon court cases that have evolved and refused to be redressed is because the former President has not shown the good-naturedness in taking a back seat and allow new energy to seep through the party that is in want of reform to winning the public confidence of forming the next government. Speaking with the knack of the clairvoyant the prospect of APC coming to power is not foreseeable in the immediate future at any rate.
Be that as it may, the former President is expected to absolve himself of all blames that have cropped up to put the opposition in shambles. Why is the president not willing to cede his power of chairman and leader? Is it an action driven by power greed or insecurity? These are question that are begging for answers. Now, whilst the former president is not given to outspokenness in conveying gut feelings except the recent knee jerk retort to a national snobbery relative to the invite to come and celebrate with whole country that unraveled pettiness and ill disposition.
Let us jettison partisan politics, which is hard to do, but it serves the former president best to have been statemanly rather than flexing to be more politically active. Maybe it is the product of frustration over the loss of power by his own design in selecting and unsellable flagbearer; so that an incumbent government is now consigned for good to the opposition.
Hunch tells me It is this self-guilt that could be driving the former president to take odd form of even becoming intransigent, defying court orders for instance.
The former president could be ill-advised by cronies that share his embarrassment of political defeat. But the stance he has taken to make for himself unsavory headlines is unfortunate. For this is the surest means to engendered disrespect from left, right and center.
The former president’s dodgy moves from facing the law in clearing his name from acts of corruption relying on thugs in Makeni to thwart the process is cowardly. How long can this false security contrivance hold in perversion of the rule of law? It is not tenable.
And this is what is playing out. The former President has ceased to be father figure and reduced to a faction leader. It is not even good for his health, because the worries and shenanigan- the devising of devious schemes to achieve his self-serving ambition of wielding political influence by the hook and crook is bound to psychological and physically weigh him down. The former president must make the decision to rest in peace, without dying, that is…
