The Sports Minister Ibrahim Nyellenkeh, has said that as a small country that is known little in terms of football has taken on a great footballing nation such as Algeria the defending champion that has gone 26 games unbeaten is a big achievement and a call for celebration.
“Their performance has put the nation in the spotlight to qualify for the Round of 16 in the Africa Cup of Nations” he revealed.
He affirmed that the team is well determined and prepared and focused on the next task ahead, whiles noting that as a government they are always prepared to support the national team financially.
On the area of motivations as government, he said that they are ready to give the boys the necessary improvement.
On the area of increment, he said this came as a concern from the players and he thinks it is a valid concern and noted that it is the reason they are planning to do another increment on the round of (16) sixteen because it will serve as a motivating factor.
“We want that trophy to be in Freetown, and we have the team to take this trophy to Freetown.
I am confident that Leone Stars can beat any team in the World, We are here as a government and always ready as government to give the boy what they want to boost them so that they can give the nation the results.” the minister said.
After Leone Stars impressive performance against the defending champion of Africa-Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations, the Minister of Sport Ibrahim Nyelenkeh has disclosed that he has written a letter addressed to President Julius Maada Bio that he should increase match appearance bonus to the national team Leone Stars on every match.
He made this disclosure at the West Plus Hotel in Cameroun.
He called on Sierra Leoneans to continue praying for the national team to boost the team going into the other matches as Leone Stars is preparing to face the Elephants of Ivory Coast on Sunday at the Stade Jopoema Stadium.
