The West Africa Football Union has notified the Sierra Leone Football Association about the decision to disqualify the country’s Under 17 Team from participating in the Confederation Africa Football tournament. The decision is based on the Under 17 team failure in eligibility test as provided under article 27.4 of U-17 Cup of Nations Regulations.
WAFU did not state in the said letter the number of players who failed the MRI test and their respective details.
SLFA in a release on the development stated that two separate MRI tests were conducted i in Sierra Leone and Guinea on the boys to ascertain their eligibility before they were flown to Senegal. SLFA said only those who had clearly passed those tests formed part of the squad.
SLFA is yet to receive result of the MRI test but has however sought for clarification on the said matter.
Last month, Chris Kamara the Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Football Association intimated Journalists that the Football Association will do that right test before the players depart for Senegal for the U-17 tournament.
It can be recalled that Guinea and Liberia were disqualified from the Tournament for fielding the players that are above the stipulated age.
Local Sport Analyst have noted that it is an economic waste as huge among of money was spent in preparing the team to partake in the tournament.
