On January 30, 2024, the Western Area Football Association took the decision to suspend the ongoing 2023/2024 Central One Football Association (COFA) League indefinitely. The suspension was prompted by a social media recording allegedly featuring the voice of Director of Competition Yapo Sillah. The recording contained disrespectful accusations against the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Western Area Football Association, and Bambara Town Community.
The Western Area Football Association, deeming the content of the recording as potentially damaging to the reputation of the game and likely to incite unrest, directed the immediate suspension of the league. As of now, Mohamed Yapo Sillah, the Director of Competition, has not issued any comments regarding the allegations.
In response to the suspension, the WAFA committee members are engaged in discussions with the Western Area Football Association to seek a resolution. Their objective is to ensure the league can resume and reach its conclusion.
Additionally, in another development, the Western Area Football Association has upheld the decision of the Appeals Committee, ruling in favor of Fourah Bay Community. Consequently, three points and three goals have been awarded to Fourah Bay Community. The Appeals Committee’s decision is considered final, in adherence to Article 9 of the Central One Football Association rules and regulations.
The organizers of the Central One Football Association have announced their intention to communicate a new date for the continuation of the league in the near future.
