The Western Area Football Association has in statement issued 23rd January disclosed that all leagues that have been scheduled will now be postponed until COVID 19 restrictions are lifted for games to be played in the open as opposed to close doors.

This means first, second division clubs and Under-15 Searching for Stars clubs games have all been put on hold.

The competitions were supposed to have kicked off on 24th January, 2021. Playing leagues behind closed doors is bound to have economic constraints to clubs, something that WAFA is disinclined to accept.

WAFA is expecting that Government revisit that decision and allow football to be played in the open after the prevailing caseload of COVID 19 drops.

The world governing body FIFA and even the continental CAF are supportive of COVID 19 safety protocol adherence in Football leagues and competitions.
