In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the Kenema community, Richard Brima appeared again on Monday, 26th May 2025, before Magistrate Patrick Fofanah at Pademba Road Court No. 1. Brima faces charges of robbery with violence and assault causing actual bodily harm, following an attack that allegedly left the complainant, Abdulai Darboh—President of the Scrap Metal Association—penniless.

The charges stem from a violent robbery that took place on the evening of Thursday, 3rd October 2024, around 8:00 p.m. at Gava Forestry Quarters in the Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema District, Eastern Province.

According to the charge sheet, Brima, accompanied by a gang of thugs, assaulted and robbed Darboh of $16,000 (USD) equivalent to Le 20,000 (new Leones) and a valuable silver wristwatch.

During the proceedings, prosecution witness Alusine Williams took the stand and recounted the moments leading up to the robbery. Williams testified that while walking near the Gava entrance gate, he was warned by a young boy whom he had helped in the past not to enter the area. The boy cautioned that Brima had brought a group of accomplices with him.

Williams said he hesitated at the entrance, and soon after, one of Brima’s associates shouted a threat, warning that anyone who entered would face serious consequences.

The courtroom was tense as Williams described the frightening events of that night. However, due to inconsistencies in the witness’s statements, Magistrate Fofanah opted to maintain the accused’s bail. The matter was adjourned to 5th June 2025 for further clarification.

As the investigation continues, residents of Kenema remain uneasy, grappling with the disturbing implications of such violence in their community. Many are calling for swift justice and enhanced security measures to restore peace and safety.
