On Tuesday, 17th January, 2023, the Sierra Leone Police updated journalists on the security status and other internal issues in the Sierra Leone Police. This happened during a press conference held at Police Headquarters, George Street in Freetown.
According to ACP Brima Kamara also known as Media one, there were violent and public disorder situations during the All People’s Congress (APC) lower level elections in some parts of the country for which eight (8) were apprehended in Masiaka, fifteen (15) in Kono and three (3) in Kambia for involving in violent and disorderly activities.
ACP Kamara intimated the press that the SLP has adopted a Zero- tolerance on violence in the forthcoming general elections.
In another update, detective Fritzlnun Joshua Moosa told journalists that on Tuesday, 5th January, 2023, at 05:46 hours, Police apprehended one Mohamed Kamara and Santigie Mansaray at Sayenoh Junction, Calabatown in Freetown with some quantity of EDSA cables suspected to have been stolen.
He told the press that the investigation is in progress.
In another update, Police arrested Three thousand four hundred and twenty six (3,426) Free quality Education exercises books.
According to detective Moosa, these exercises books were loaded in a vehicle with registration number AQM 013 with intent to smuggle them out of Sierra Leone.
He added that the said vehicle was interrupted by the Kambia Police Division Operations team on Tuesday, 10th January, 2023.
Detective Moosa further revealed that the driver of the said vehicle, Abu Bakarr Kamara, was hired by one Mabinty Dumbuya who is currently on the run. He however confirmed that the driver is in custody helping with the investigation.
