Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh participated in a symbolic rice harvesting event in the Yemiyah community, highlighting the success of a recent agricultural initiative to boost local food production and create jobs.
The event, which took place on Saturday, marked a significant milestone for a project initiated by Jalloh just a few months ago, aimed at cultivating maize in the region.
The Vice President expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s positive impact, stating it contributes to President Bio’s “Feed Salone” initiative, which seeks to enhance food security across the country.
The gathering at the community farm celebrated the harvest and underscored the importance of local agriculture in addressing food shortages and providing employment opportunities. “It’s heartening to see how our efforts are resonating within the community, fostering economic growth and self-sufficiency,” Jalloh remarked.
Following the harvesting event, Jalloh visited the PC Agriculture Industrial Onion Farm, just two kilometers away, where he observed plans to plant 70 hectares of onions this year. The farm is set to employ 65 permanent workers and 200 seasonal workers, further amplifying job creation in the area.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to transform food production in Sierra Leone. The “Feed Salone” program is gaining traction as it aims to shape a “New Direction” for the country’s agricultural landscape.
Jalloh emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting local farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity as essential components of national development.
The Vice President’s visit and the ongoing agricultural projects illustrate a concerted effort to empower communities, boost food production, and create sustainable job opportunities, reinforcing the government’s focus on achieving food security and economic resilience in Sierra Leone.
