There is a social media scoundrel that carries the sobriquet Adebayor. His trademark rant of expletives and cussing of respectable people`s mothers has attained a height of notoriety that could have passed without any comment. But the recent visit of Adebayor to Istanbul at the behest of the opposition All Peoples Congress Turkish diaspora branch is further confirming to us that the miscreant is tool of the APC. Granted the APC has a hallmark of all that is raw, uncouth and smack of thug life which dates to the foundation of the party when names like AGBA SATANI of the ORSAI ORWAI sloganeering that conveys the idea of heat and pain cannot be effaced from the party’s political history. You cannot teach old dogs new tricks; this is exactly playing out under the political leadership of Ernest Bai Koroma. It is perplexing that a party that assumed power from the late President Tejan Kabbah and professed to be of new orientation in shedding off all the stigmata of the past could be pampering a Frankenstein Monster that would devour its master on the day of reckoning come 2023.
APC hero worship of Adebayor and implicit admittance that they are instigating to be insulting people on social media is repulsive to decent Sierra Leoneans who are not politically aligned and are going to take their decision to sympathize with the SLPP that is victim of the cyber bully of Adebayor. If the APC is banking on the ‘mammy cussing’ Adebayor to win elections it is a pathetic miscalculation.
For this is a country of law where the newly enacted Cyber security law negates cyber bully. He can choose to be self-exiled and even stateless, parading around his partisan ilk in gangster paradise fashion. In Istanbul, we saw Adebayor donning bullet proof vest flaunting as a celebrity of notoriety. Why is he afraid that he could be gunned down? He is the kind of political dissident and using the cyber security law that was not actually enacted to clip him he could as well be used as precedent to criminalize a criminal perverting social media using Interpol. There is no hiding place Adebayor!
