United States of America has donated over five hundred thousand new COVID-19 Vaccines to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation on Wednesday 23rd March 2022.

The donation, which is targeting five hundred million worldwide with regards of curtailing the spread of the disease, which is assumed that two hundred thousand (200,000) Pfizer vaccines had been donated as well as more than three hundred thousand Johnson & Johnson early this month according to the press release.

The press statement noted that the United States of America had donated over eight hundred thousand (800,000) vaccines to Sierra Leone since last year.

It revealed that as of December 2021, the Pfizer vaccine had been approved for children age 12 in order not to spread the disease. ‘’Vaccination at schools like this will ensure that the people and youth of Sierra Leone are protected,’’ the United States Deputy Chief of Mission Elaine French said upon his visit to the St. Joseph‘s Secondary School in Freetown.

He disclosed that the increasing vaccination coverage in Sierra Leone serves as an example of how the partnership between Sierra Leone and US has produced meaningful impacts.

The press release affirmed that since COVID-19 vaccines have become available, the Government of Sierra Leone and United States have tremendously worked to prevent its infections. Noting that already 20% of Sierra Leoneans over the age of 12 are fully vaccinated and that the donation and assistance would aid Sierra Leone to meet the targeted ambition WHO has pointed at; that which 70% vaccination by the end of 2022 is.
