In a significant milestone for Sierra Leone’s fight against transnational crime, two law enforcement officers have successfully completed specialized training at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Gaborone, Botswana.

Alusine Sillah from the Financial Intelligence Agency and Albert Momoh from the Sierra Leone Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were selected to attend the training program, which focused on advanced techniques to combat visa and passport fraud, human trafficking, and other serious crimes that pose a threat to global security.

The training was organized by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security and reflects America’s ongoing commitment to strengthening global security and justice. The U.S. Embassy’s involvement highlights the robust partnership between Sierra Leone and the United States, underscoring the shared goal of promoting regional stability and security.

The ILEA Gaborone, located near the Botswana Police College complex, provides training for mid-level law enforcement managers from eligible sub-Saharan African countries. The academy’s mission is to enhance international cooperation against crime and promote democratic governance through the rule of law.

This training is part of Sierra Leone’s broader effort to enhance its law enforcement capabilities. Recently, the Sierra Leone Police launched its Strategic Development Plan for 2025-2029, which prioritizes community policing and closer collaboration with international partners. The plan aims to guide the police force’s activities over the next four years, emphasizing a shift from traditional law enforcement to a more community-centered approach.

The completion of this training by Alusine Sillah and Albert Momoh highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing transnational crimes. As Sierra Leone continues to bolster its law enforcement capacity, such partnerships will be key in promoting greater security and stability across the region.
