In a significant move to advance Sierra Leone’s development agenda, United States Ambassador Bryan David Hunt hosted a luncheon meeting for the Millennium Challenge Account–Sierra Leone (MCA-SL) Board of Directors at his residence on August 20, 2025.
The high-level meeting was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, and marked the official resumption of the MCA-SL Compact implementation a critical step toward accelerating economic growth and poverty reduction in Sierra Leone.
The MCA-SL plays a vital role in driving national development through strategic, targeted investments. The luncheon served as a platform for board members to deliberate on the next phase of compact implementation, with particular focus on governance structures and recruitment processes.
Ambassador Hunt emphasized the importance of the compact’s re-launch, describing it as a reflection of the enduring partnership between the United States and Sierra Leone. “The resumption of this compact reaffirms our shared commitment to progress, accountability, and inclusive growth,” he stated.
A major topic of discussion was the recruitment of the MCA-SL executive team, a critical step to ensure efficient management and execution of the compact’s programs. The Board also discussed the selection of two civil society organization (CSO) representatives and one private sector representative to complete its membership. These additions are expected to bring diverse insights and strengthen inclusive decision-making.
As Sierra Leone continues its journey toward sustainable development, the revival of the MCA-SL compact brings renewed optimism for impactful reforms and long-term socio-economic progress. The collaboration reflects a united effort to address pressing development challenges through innovative strategies and mutual cooperation.
