The Board of the UN Peace-building’s Youth Bike Riders project convened on March 18, 2025, to discuss and approve the work plan for the upcoming year.

Co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Hon. Patrick Gibrilla and UN Resident Representative Fred Ampiah, the meeting focused on strategies to enhance the role of youth bike riders as advocates for peace in their communities.

The gathering, held in Freetown, brought together key stakeholders committed to promoting youth engagement in peace-building efforts.

The board highlighted the significance of the Youth Bike Riders project, which aims to harness the energy and potential of young people to foster dialogue and understanding among diverse groups.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Gibrilla emphasised the importance of youth involvement in peace initiatives. “Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the champions of peace today. By empowering them through initiatives like the Youth Bike Riders project, we are investing in a more peaceful future,” he stated.

The approved work plan outlines various activities aimed at training youth bike riders in conflict resolution, community engagement, and leadership skills. These initiatives will equip them to act as catalysts for change within their communities, promoting unity and collaboration.

The board’s decision to increase support for the project underscores its commitment to empowering youth as crucial actors in peace-building. As the world faces increasing challenges related to conflict and division, the Youth Bike Riders project stands as a beacon of hope, illustrating how young individuals can drive meaningful change and contribute to a more peaceful society.
