Alusine Serry Kamara, a final-year Law student at the University of Makeni (UNIMAK), has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Secretary-General of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Kamara has promised a leadership style rooted in accountability, discipline, and effective communication.
In a written declaration addressed to the university community, he explained that his decision to run was motivated by a strong desire to strengthen the SRC Secretariat and reposition it as a dependable pillar of student governance. He described the office of Secretary-General as central to the smooth functioning of student affairs, emphasizing that efficiency, transparency, and inclusiveness must define its operations.
Currently serving as president of the National Union of APC Students (NUAS), Kamara said he brings to the race a solid record of service and leadership, both within and outside the university. He added that his experiences have equipped him with the discipline, organizational skills, and attention to detail necessary to manage records, coordinate communications, and accurately document the activities of the council.
Outlining his vision, the aspiring Secretary-General stated his intention to introduce a new level of responsibility to the office by prioritizing prompt communication, proper documentation, and stronger coordination between the SRC and the general student body.
He highlighted that effective documentation is not merely administrative work but also a means of preserving the history and direction of student leadership. “I believe documentation is history in motion,” Kamara noted, adding that his goal is to ensure all SRC decisions and actions are clearly recorded and communicated in a way that reflects the true will of the students.
Assuring students that his candidacy is centered on service rather than rhetoric, Kamara stated that he is prepared to work diligently to rebuild confidence in the Secretariat and raise the standard of student leadership at UNIMAK.
He concluded by calling on students, stakeholders, and fellow comrades to support what he described as a movement for responsible leadership, urging them to unite behind a shared vision of a more effective and accountable SRC.
The SRC elections for the 2025/2026 academic year are expected to attract significant interest as student leaders position themselves to shape governance at the University of Makeni.
