UNIDO Representative to China visits Sierra Leone Embassy in Beijing

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Representative and Head of Regional Office to China, DPR Korea and Mongolia, Dr. Stephen Bainous Kargbo has paid a courtesy call on the Republic of Sierra Leone Embassy Beijing, China.

The visit of Dr. Kargbo, a Sierra Leonean serving in that capacity was received with joy by members of staff of the Embassy.

Welcoming the UNIDO Rep, Deputy Ambassador/Charge d’ affaires, Saffa-Woya Rogers expressed delight to have Dr. Kargbo visiting the Embassy and went on to mention prominent Sierra Leoneans who have served in high positions in other International Organizations including the current Speaker of Parliament Dr. Abass Bundu, who once served as Secretary General of ECOWAS.

As the foreign policy of Sierra Leone is economic diplomacy, he is encouraging all to work concertedly for the development of Sierra Leone and especially appealed to the UNIDO Rep. to always remember to extend development opportunities to Sierra Leone.

Making his remarks, Dr. Kargbo said he was appointed to serve as UNIDO Rep to China on the special request of the Director-General of UNIDO, stating that it is a privilege to serve in China as it is a learning opportunity. He went further to state that China represents the model of development that has alleviated over 800 million people from extreme poverty.

Dr. Kargbo said he is very happy to be at home away from home, disclosing that the Republic of Sierra Leone Embassy is his first official visit since he came to China.

He acknowledged the plead by the Deputy Ambassador if concerted effort and thus reiterated the need of team work for the development of Sierra Leone, stating that no one should hesitate to call on him when the need arises.

He said he is looking forward to working with the Ambassador when he returns.
