UNICEF CELEBRATES 75TH ANNIVERSARY

The United Nations International Children’s Educational Fund (UNICEF) has celebrated its 75th anniversary during the decoration of the World Children’s Day at the Freetown City Council Auditorium on Monday 22nd November, 2021.

 At the event of the World Children’s Day, United Nations International Children’s Educational Fund at 75 a theme “reimagining the future for every child since 1946” was adopted.

UNICEF has been working tremendously for child rights and for the well-being of every child wherever the organization operates.

 When giving the keynote address, the country representative of United Nations International Children’s Educational Fund Dr. Suleiman Brima disclosed that UNICEF was particularly created to respond to the challenges and threats of the Second World War which steered leaders of the world to an agreement to fulfill its mandate for the catering and supporting and the provision of essential amenities for the entire children in the globe.

He noted that the founders of UNICEF have worked hard in order to dissolve the constraints children are facing around the world as well  provided the necessary opportunities for children regardless of their status.

 “We would take a critical review of the present and access areas for further actions. That is what commemoration is about and it is not only about celebration. We are going to boldly exhaust our vision for children in this day and era where in we would be focusing very strongly on innovative solutions that can be explored to support every single child across Sierra Leone,’’ Dr. Sulaiman Brima said.

He averred that the 75th Anniversary of UNICEF sees a moment of an unprecedented disruption by the Coronavirus pandemic which hammered the world economy into a standstill.

He furthered they are aware of the damage this virus has created. Therefore, they would fight to provide education, access quality healthcare, protect services for children and young people even amidst this melting time.

Dr. Sulaiman Brima urged the guests and children present to remain steadfast and assured that the President Bio-led government is ready to gear up the well-being of young people in Sierra Leone and continue to maintain the ongoing Free Quality Education.

Deputy Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs Buakai Bindi Hindowa revealed that this year’s celebration serves as a milestone in the history of Sierra Leone as a result of the outstanding inroads His Excellency President Bio is creating in both local and international levels by making sure children and young people are recognized.

“Be rest assured that President Bio-led government is child-friendly and we are here to give you all the very best,’’ he said.
