The Second Police Witness (PW2), Mr. Clavll Beury appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba on 31st March,, 2021 at the Pademba Road Court in Freetown to testify against Joseph Sahr Sandy, accused in a larceny matter of over eleven million Leones (11,000,000.00).
While testifying, PW2 said he knew the accused person as someone who works for the Security Support Group International (SSGI) as security guard that was assigned to UNFPA and the complainant Sahr Septimus Matthew Jimmy.
The witness (PW2) an IT specialist for UNFPA, said on 23rd October, 2020 he was called by the Head of Operations Manager of UNFPA to inform him about a theft incident at the Finance Department. The witness was instructed by his superior to look at the footages to detect any suspicious activities that had happened at the UNFPA, Finance department.
The witness said he noticed that on 15th October, 2020 the accused person went into the Finance Department at about 6 O’clock in the evening that the accused person came out from the department with wrap on his uniform. He further testified that the CCTV camera captured the accused person while in his uniform and was able to extract the CCTV footage and submitted it to his boss.
The witness, Clavll Beury further explained that the footage was given to the Head of Operation at Security Support Group International (SSGI). He revealed that the time the accused person went into the Finance Department, it was not working hours for UNFPA and that the accused left his post for the said department.
According to the charge sheet, the accused is charged with one count of Larceny contrary to the Laws of Sierra Leone. It’s alleged in court that on the 15th October, 2020 at United Nations Population Fund Activities (UNFPA) at Signal Hill Congo Cross Freetown, the accused person Joseph Sahr Sandy entered the said office and stole eleven million Leones (Le 11,000,000/00).
The witness under cross examination said through the assistant of the CCTVA camera he was able to see the accused person with monies while he was coming out of the Finance department.
The State Prosecutor prosecuting the case is Sargent 1982 McCarthy and Lawyer A.B.Moissa representing the accused person. The accused person is on bail and the matter was adjourned to the 14th April, 2021.
