A prominent Sierra Leonean businessman, Alhaji Alusine Kamara, has commenced the construction of an ultra-modern clock tower at the Ngalu Road roundabout in Bo City, as part of efforts to give back to the municipality and complement the ongoing development initiatives of the Bo City Council.
Speaking on the project, Alhaji Kamara said the initiative was conceived to support the transformation agenda of the Mayor of Bo City, particularly in upgrading the aesthetics and functionality of key roundabouts along Fenton, Mahei Boima, and Ngalu Roads. He explained that the project aims to transform the previously underutilised Ngalu Road roundabout into a modern landmark that will serve both beautification and commercial purposes.
“Before now, the Ngalu Road roundabout was grossly misused and detracted from the outlook of the city. However, when Mayor Kobba Musa assumed office and began championing city transformation, I resolved to personally undertake this project as my contribution to the development of Bo,” Alhaji Kamara stated, emphasising that the project is being fully funded by him.
He further disclosed that upon completion, the ultra-modern clock tower will be fitted with large plasma television screens powered by renewable energy sources. The screens, he explained, will be used for advertisements and public information dissemination, creating opportunities for businesses and investors while ensuring sustainability through proper security and management structures.
Reacting to the development, the Mayor of Bo City, His Worship Kobba Musa, expressed profound appreciation to Alhaji Alusine Kamara for what he described as a timely and visionary intervention. He noted that the Ngalu Road roundabout is among several sites identified under the Council’s 2026 City Beautification Agenda.
Mayor Musa explained that the Bo City Council adopts a tripartite approach to development, which includes internally generated revenue, central government grants, and strategic partnerships with private individuals and institutions.
“Alhaji Alusine Kamara formally expressed his intention to partner with the Council on this project, and we deemed it fit to accept the partnership in the interest of development and love for Bo City,” the Mayor said.
He also referenced other roundabouts within the city, including the main Bo City Clock Tower, which is currently undergoing renovation under the supervision of Africell as part of broader city beautification efforts.
Reaffirming the Council’s commitment to inclusive development, Mayor Musa stressed that the Bo City Council does not operate in isolation but works closely with partners to achieve sustainable growth. He added that, as Mayor, he personally led the contractor for the project and formally introduced him to Alhaji Kamara as the Council’s preferred and results-oriented contractor.
Providing technical insight into the project, Engineer Ibrahim Bash Kamara described the design as simple in structure but high in value and impact. He assured that the completed clock tower would meet international standards and serve as a benchmark for modern city beautification.
“The design may appear modest, but its aesthetic value will position Bo City as an emerging modern city,” he said.
