At the SK Foryoh Memorial United Brethren in Christ Church Bo, a welfare scheme has been launched to cater to the needs of the vulnerable. Under the leadership of the Board Chairman, James Medo the welfare scheme was launched last Sunday, 23rd October 2022. After a well-attended church service, a brief background was given by the man in charge of welfare in the church, Alfred Kassay.
He told the congregation that they decided to target “widows, disabled, aged and pupils in academia from primary to university. The money raised for this year’s welfare was to the tune “of Le.40,000,000(old leones) and the beneficiaries included 12 widows, 3 orphans 3 university students and 2 disabled.
Giving his sermon on the theme “Strengthening Your Grip”, the Rev. Francis Challey, who is the Dean of Cabinet, United Methodist Church Sierra Leone Conference stated that “the welfare plan is an integral part of the bible”.
And that it helps to build up faith. He cited First Timothy 5: 3-16, and warned those who have made it in life not to show indifference to those who are suffering. Launching the scheme formally, the board chairman of SK Foryoh Memorial UBC, Moriba town Bo, James Medo said that “it is not going going to be a one-off event but a continuous process which will be done annually.”
He assured me that there is a policy in place to ensure that those who are really in need get it. And special recognition was given to those who donated generously to the scheme among them being the former regional chairman of SLAJ south, Samuel Haffner.
Among the things that were given were bags of rice, one-year tuition for university students, medical expenses for those suffering from severe health conditions and cash donations to orphans attending school.
The chairman, James Medo is calling on other well-wishers to contribute to the scheme for next year. In appreciation, a beneficiary of the scheme, Bocking who is attending JSS thanked the donors and asked for God’s blessings upon their lives.
