UBA rented house was a Scam -Witness explains ordeal

 Testifying before Magistrate Hadiru K Daboh of  Ross Road Court No.3 in Freetown, First Prosecution witness,  Isatu Bundu told the Court on Tuesday 19 October 2021, that she recognized the accused Abdul Karim Kamara through her sister Sarian Kamara who resides in  England. ,

 She further recalled on the 31 July 2021, when she met with the accused at Rokel village, when she took out United Bank for Africa Cheques book and signed thirteen million Leones in the name of the accused for a house rent that her sister and the accused has discussed earlier.

And the apartment was for UBA to do tailoring which was sponsored by the bank (UBA). And the accused issued her with a receipt.

The witnesses further testified that the accused gave her one room to park her belongings, and handed over a single key to her, while she rented the whole apartment, only a single room was given to her according to the witness.

 She also said that the accused told her that he would gain full access to the apartment after repairing the floor tiles. On the 9 August she went to the house it was not completed, and she then expressed her frustration to the accused and his sister. On the 10 August 2021, the accused sister apologized for the delay.

On the 11 August, she visited the apartment again but the repairing was still incomplete. She tried calling the accused line but to no avail, later he replied her by stating that her sister asked him to call her in UK.

 Upon switching on her WhatsApp application she noticed that there was a message from the accused person’s sister in England. Upon the message from the accused sister, she confronted the accused and told her he is not going to rent her any more, and she must communicate to her sister to get further instructions to allow her access to the apartment. So the apartment was not given to her for the purpose of UBA to do their work. After a month she reported the matter at Ross Road Police Station and statements were obtained from her and witnesses. After testifying the complainant was cross examined by Joshua A Ansumana Esq. 

ASP Jeneba Bangura is prosecuting the matter, Z.A Kanu Esq.  Associate with the Prosecution. Six million Leones cash was given to the witness and the accused was granted bail, matter adjourned to the20th October 2021.
