In a bid to strengthen bilateral cooperation, the U.S. Military Advisors held a three-week training session starting on February 23, 2024, for 80 RSLAF soldiers ranging from the rank of Lance Corporal to Warrant Officer 1. The training focused on Critical Site and Asset Security.
The United States Embassy in Sierra Leone clarified that the training was conducted by the Security Force Assistant Brigade, a specialized unit within the U.S. Army. This brigade’s primary mission is to advise and assist nations in enhancing their threat response capabilities in accordance with democratic and human rights principles.
The U.S. Embassy emphasized that the RSLAF would continue investing in the modernization and professional development of its forces. The three-week training program aimed to accelerate the defense technical skills of the RSLAF, covering areas such as perimeter security, critical site and asset protection, and entrance and access control points.
According to the Embassy, this training built upon existing RSLAF protocols while reinforcing others to facilitate growth and development. Additionally, the program facilitated personnel exchanges and information sharing between the U.S. Army and the RSLAF.
The Embassy underscored that the partnership between the United States and Sierra Leone in defense training represented a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation. This collaboration was expected to bolster Sierra Leone’s defensive capabilities, reinforce professionalism, respect for human rights, and democratic norms within the RSLAF, and contribute to regional security and stability.
In conclusion, the Embassy reiterated its commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s endeavors to promote democracy, health, and prosperity, aiming to build a mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations.
