Tyre dealer Sentenced to 4yrs Imprisonment or Pay Fine

Convicted Tyre dealer Ibrahim Thoronka was before Justice Abu Bakarr Binneh Kamara of the High Court on the Judicial Week to look into backlog cases.

Ibrahim Thoronka on 2nd February 2022 was before Justice Abu Bakarr Binneh Kamara on a counts charge of fraudulent conversation.

 When the charge was read to the convict he pleaded guilty. The Prosecution team lead by Daisy Sawyerr, address the Court that the convict is before the Court by committal warrant dated 31st March 2017, and duly signed by the Magistrate.

The Prosecution produced and tendered the committal warrant on indictment number DPP 2018/151 and dated 15th May 2018, and he is charged with a count of fraudulent conversation contrary to Section 20 sub Section 1 paragraph 4A of the Larceny Act 1916.

She stated that the offence of the convict is criminally liable to a term imprisonment not exceeding 7 years.

The convict on the 22nd March 2016, fraudulently converted to his own use and benefit certain properties to wit 20feet vehicle tyre value fifty million three hundred thousand Leones, entrusted to him by the complainant Gloria Tucker for the purpose of sale.

Defense Counsel M.W. Jalloh Esq. pleaded on behalf of the convict as he is a young man with a family and he has spent 3years in prison.

 The defense furthered that there was ADR between the convict and the complainant which he paid twenty seven million Leones to the complainant at the Police Station.

 Justice Abu Bakarr Binneh Kamara said there is no backing in the file to prove that.

 In that case, he sentenced the convict to 4 years or pays a fine of fifty million Leones to the state.
