The Media and Public Relations Officer of the Sierra Leone Police in the Southern Region , Inspector Mohamed Bobson Senu has said that they have a received letter from the Vonjo and the Kamara ruling houses in Valunia Chiefdom demanding for the de-amalgamation of the chiefdom.
Speaking to A-Z Newspaper about update on security in Southern Region, Inspector Senu said that the letter to de-amalgamate the chiefdom was sent to the Local Unit Commander and the Regional Police Commander in the Southern Region and a meeting was convened where the District Officer and the Security sector engaged the ruling houses and amiably resolved the matter with the plans to carry out the amalgamation.
He however said that the seven police divisions in the southern region are quiet with few security threats around night offences, which they are robust to nib in the bud, adding that the community people should give information to the police about criminality in their respective communities.
Speaking to this medium, some stakeholders in Valunia Chiefdom called on the local government minister and the security sector to carefully look into the de-amalgamation request as there is a sitting paramount chief in the chiefdom.
Some Civil Society Activist in Valunia Chiefdom in a telephone interview said that the request of the two ruling houses is in place but they are concerned about if this is the right time to de-amalgamate Valunia chiefdom.
They however suggested that the current paramount chief should be fully involved in the process, so that the de-amalgamation plans will not have security implications.
