Two Police Officers Dismissed: For Drunkenness,“Kush” Possession

On Tuesday, 17th January, 2023, the Sierra Leone Police updated journalists on the security status and other internal issues in the Sierra Leone Police. This happened during a press conference held at Police Headquarters, George Street in Freetown.

The Director of Professional Standards, AIG Kapri S. Kamara, updated the press that the SLP has dismissed Police Constable 12960 Ferenkeh Paul Turay who was awaiting deployment as part of the Formed Police Unit (F.P.U) to Somaila.

According to AIG Kamara, the said police was dismissed because he was unlawfully possessing Forty two (42) wraps of narcotic drugs “kush.” 

He further informed the press that the said officer was further handed over to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit ( TOCU) for Criminal Investigation  and he has been charged to court. 

AIG Kapri. S. Kamara further updated the press that the SLP has also dismissed PC. 20522 Edward Kamachande who is an OSD personnel working at the Kailahun Police Division.

According to the AIG, on Monday, 2rd January this year, the said police was found under the influence of alcohol whilst on duty, noting that it is against the Police Discipline Regulations 2001.

Furthermore, the  Head of Media and Public Relations of the SLP, ACP Brima Kamara (Media one) updated Journalists that the Sierra Leone Police is currently embarking on a massive rehabilitation and construction of Police Stations and posts in various police jurisdictions across the country.

 ACP Brima Kamara also revealed that the SLP is almost completing the Basic Recruitment Training of one Thousand recruits; they are expected to pass out soon. 

 He also confirmed that the Training Department of the SLP is embarking on Election Specific Training of personnel across the country and  that such trainings would continue, noting that 14000 Police Officers would be given such training before polling day.
