A man identified as Hassan aka ‘Big Klose’ has mercilessly beaten a community health officer and medical doctor at the Koidu Government Hospital in Koidu City, Kono District. Joseph T. Kamara the senior secretary to Koidu Government Hospital said in an interview that at around 11.00 pm on Wednesday 6th July 2022 he received a distress call that some relatives of a patient that was reportedly in pain descended on the community health officer and the medical doctor because they refused to admit their daughter as demanded.

The Senior secretary Koidu Government hospital further noted that according to the Community Health Officers (CHO) that was beaten the patient in question upon arrival was coughing frequently and does not need to be admitted to the emergency ward but her relatives insisted that their seventeen years old daughter must be admitted at the emergency ward.

He said the CHO took his time to explain to the relatives of the patient that the information collected at the triage about the patient in question was never enough for her to be admitted to the emergency ward but rather to the children’s ward due to what she was diagnosed with.

He further that the man identified as Hassan aka ‘Big Klose’ remarked that the CHO does not know his work and began hitting him on his face at the same time bit his left thumb.

Joseph T. Kamara pointed out that on his part the medical doctor was also beaten when he started educating Hassan on how they operate as medics at the Koidu Government Hospital.

He said ‘Big Klose’ did not only beat and wound the CHO and the medical doctor but he also rained motherly invectives on them.

To avoid a re-occurrence of such menace Joseph T. Kamara maintained that the following are conditions for the admission of patients to the emergency ward. Respiratory problems, unconsciousness, saturation (low and high blood pressure) and when people involve in gruesome accidents to name but a few.

Meanwhile, efforts by this medium to contact Hassan or’ Big Klose’ provide futile as calls and messages are sent to him via SMS with no reply. The matter is under investigation at the Tankoro Police divisional headquarters in Koidu City Kono District, while the two medics are responding to treatment.
