Two Charged with Malicious Damage

Valentina Norman, a 30-year-old businesswoman, and Ansumana Norman, a 29-year-old social worker, appeared again before Magistrate Mary Julian Gbloh at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 5 in Freetown. The accused are facing a three-count charge involving malicious damage, threatening language, and public insult and provocation.

The charges are as follows: Count One: Malicious damage contrary to Section 51 of the Malicious Damage Act of 1861.

Count Two: Threatening language contrary to Section 2 of the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965.

Count Three: Public insult and provocation, also contrary to Section 2 of the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965.

According to the particulars of the offense, on Monday, 3rd March 2025, at No. 37 Spur Road in the Western Area of Freetown, the accused persons allegedly maliciously damaged a wooden door valued at Three Thousand Leones (Le 3,000). The door was said to be the property of John Bonoh Sesay and was in the custody of Daniel Remi Turner at the time of the incident.

On the same date and at the same location, the accused also allegedly used threatening language toward one Ibrahim Doen Turay with the intent to provoke him to commit a breach of the peace. Furthermore, they were accused of insulting Ibrahim Doen Turay in a manner likely to incite a breach of the peace.

When the charges were read and explained to the accused, both Valentina and Ansumana Norman pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Sergeant 3001 Francess Lamin requested a short adjournment to enable her to present the next prosecution witness.

Magistrate Gbloh granted the request and adjourned the matter to 21st July 2025. Bail for the accused persons remains in effect.
