Foday Tawarally and Sallieu Kamara appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Ross Road Court No.1 in Freetown for allegedly conspiring with unknown persons to steal a steel gate valued at worth NLe15, 000 belonging to the General Manager of Metro Transport Company, Rodney Karim Chiande.
Foday and Kamara appeared before the court on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to law and larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
It was alleged that Foday Tawarallies and Sallieu Kamara, on Saturday 10th at No. 110 Philip Street Wellington in Freetown, conspired with unknown persons commit a felony to wit, larceny.
The police said that the accused, on the same date and place in Freetown, conspired with unknown persons to steal a steel gate valued at NLe15000 belonging to Tamba Rodney Karim Chiande.
Led in evidence by Chief Inspector Isatu Bangura, prosecution witness (PW) 1, Tamba Rawdon residing Philip Street Wellington in Freetown and also working for Metro Transport Company as a General Manager told the court that he said he recognized first accused as his neighbour and the second accused on the day of the incident.
He said he could recall on Saturday 10th June 2023. He said on the said date, he was at home sleeping at around 6am, when her wife, whose name was not mentioned have information concerning the accused.
PW 1 said upon receipt of the information, he left for the crime scene, adding that when he arrived an OSD officer working for Sierra Leone Police (SLP) whose name was not mentioned, gave him certain information about the accused.
He said he saw the accused with the said gate and also discovered that the right hand of his front gate leading to his compound was uprooted which approximately valued at NLe15,000.
He said he then reported the matter to the Kissy Police Station, disclosing that the police officer instructed him to take photographs which he said he forwarded to him Via his Samsung Galaxy S10.
The photos were produced and tendered for identification and made a statement at the said station.
The accused were not legally represented, but Magistrate Keikura accorded them an opportunity to cross examine the witness.
Responding, they told the court that they had no questions for him. The accused were denied bail and remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to 17th July 2023 for further hearing.
