Twelve Teams Participate in SLFPL

The Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Female Premier League board, Jenessi Matturi has on Thursday 20th October 2022 said the Sierra Leone Female Premier League is the first female elite football league in Sierra Leone. She made this statement in the weekly press briefing by the Ministry of Information and Communication.

The female football premier league started last weekend and was kicked start by his Excellency the President Dr. Julius Mada Bio at Makeni.

“There are 12 teams participating in this league, before we were appointed, the teams had already being selected, and they comes from various part of the country. We have them from the following parts of the country ; there are four teams in Freetown and the rest of the teams come from Lungi, Gambia, Kabala, Kenema, Kaillhun , Koia, Bo, and Rutile,” she explained.

The Secretary intimated that all the games are scheduled to play during the weekend, according to her is because they want the players to concentrate in their academics.

Madam Secretary also said they are expecting to see more female officials officiating these games as she noticed that there are more male officials and also expected to see more female kids to play football. She further intimated that they are hoping to see a national female team.
