The Training Directorate of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has successfully concluded a comprehensive training program on “Efficient Traffic Management: Strategies for Modern Urban Mobility” on Saturday, January 25, 2025, targeting traffic personnel in the Western area.
The closing ceremony, which took place at the Senior Officers Mess in Kingtom, was attended by over 300 traffic personnel and featured a keynote address by the Director of Training, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Sahr Y. Senesi.
The training program, designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of traffic personnel, covered a wide range of topics, including an overview of traffic principles, traffic laws and offenses, major traffic reports, professionalism, ethics, and human rights. Other areas of focus included highway codes, traffic regulations and diversion, investigation skills and report writing, gathering and preserving evidence, statement taking, crash scene management, and policing the Central Business District.
The training, which aimed to equip traffic personnel with the necessary skills to manage modern urban mobility effectively, is part of a broader effort to improve traffic management in the country. According to sources, plans are underway to cascade similar training programs to the provinces, targeting other traffic police officers.
The successful completion of this training program demonstrates the SLP’s commitment to enhancing the capacity of its personnel to address the complex challenges of modern urban mobility. By providing its traffic personnel with the necessary skills and knowledge, the SLP aims to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and promote a more efficient and effective traffic management system.
