Trader Remanded Over Alleged Shop Breaking and Larceny

Alimamy Kamara, a trader, made his first appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, facing a charge of shop breaking and larceny, contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, on Thursday, 19 June 2025, at No. 2 Wallace Johnson Street, Western Area, Freetown, the defendant allegedly broke and entered the shop of Salieu Kamara with intent to steal. The stolen items reportedly included physical cash amounting to thirteen thousand Leones (Le 13,000), eight gross Empire cigarette boxes, and other assorted items, with a total estimated value of twenty-eight thousand five hundred and eighty-five Leones (Le 28,585), all belonging to Salieu Kamara.

When the charge was read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken.

The prosecutor, DPC 17649 Brima Kargbo, served the defendant with the relevant documents, which he acknowledged receiving.

Magistrate Jah refused bail and remanded the defendant to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 17 February 2026.
