Forty-three-year-old Bilkisul Kallon was arraigned before Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Tuesday, October 29, 2025, facing four charges of wounding with intent, contrary to Sections 18 and 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, as well as assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the same Act.

According to the particulars of the offence, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Building One Community, Upper George Brook, Dwarzark Farm, Freetown, in the Western Area of Sierra Leone, Kallon allegedly wounded Isata Mansaray with the intent to cause her grievous bodily harm.

The first charge states that on the above date and location, Kallon maliciously wounded Isata Mansaray. The second charge alleges that she assaulted Mansaray, occasioning her actual bodily harm. The fourth charge states that Kallon also assaulted Hassan Koroma, causing him actual bodily harm.

When the charges were read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Isatu Baba Musa, led the prosecution. Witness number two, Hassan Koroma, a motor mechanic, testified that the defendant, Kallon, is the daughter of his landlord, and Isata Mansaray is his wife. He recalled that on October 2, 2025, after returning home from work in the evening, he learned from his mother-in-law that his wife had gone to visit a friend. When his wife returned, she reported to him that Kallon had uprooted her crops. Koroma then advised his wife to avoid the defendant, and both of them went to report the incident to Kallon’s cousin, known as Teacher.

According to Koroma, Kallon began using insulting language against his wife. When his wife questioned her, Kallon came out of the room with a matta pestle (a heavy wooden pestle), and a confrontation ensued. Koroma’s wife tried to take the pestle away from Kallon, but Kallon struck her on the head with it, causing a wound. Kallon then fled the scene. Koroma chased after her, but was interrupted when his mother-in-law called him to help his wife, who was bleeding heavily. As Koroma was about to return to assist his wife, Kallon struck him on the back with the same matta pestle.

Koroma then called a boy for assistance to help lift his wife, and they used a motorbike to take her to the Akon Police Station. The police advised them to take her for medical treatment due to the profuse bleeding. Both Koroma and his wife were issued medical request forms by the police, which were later endorsed at the Lumley Police Station. The medical reports were tendered as evidence in court.

Counsel representing the defendant, A.E.M. Lukullay, requested a short adjournment to cross-examine the witness.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Fornah refused bail and remanded the defendant to the male correctional facility in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to November 5, 2025.
