Trade Minister Inspects Mobile Scanner in Gbalamuya

The Minister of Trade and Industry Dr. Edward Hinga Sandi and his Deputy Madam Isata Kamara together with other senior officials of the Ministry including the Permanent Secretary Mr. Augustine Sheku visited Kambia District Bamoi Luma and Gbalamuya on the 4th February 2022.

The purpose of the visit was to engage with traders and customs officers and to also inspect the mobile scanner in Gbalamuya post and also discuss issues around the ease of trade and increased revenue generation.

The Minister of Trade was accompanied by senior management of Integrated Trading Services, a company responsible to inspect and scan goods in our ports and land borders. Discussions were centered on revenue collection and the operations of the Mobile Scanner that has been installed at the Gbalamuya customs since 2012

The CEO of Integrated Trading Services Albert Gulama promised to ensure that they replicate their operations at the Queen Elizabeth II Port to the Gbalamuya post. The CEO affirmed that soonest they will put the mobile scanner to operation in order to increase revenue and promote security in the border post.

At Bamoi, the Minister of Trade and Industry engaged traders and listened to some of their concerns. Dr. Sandi assured the traders of the ministry’s unflinching support in making trade less cumbersome in the district.

In fulfillment of their Corporate Social Responsibilities, the CEO Integrated Trading Services (ITS) promised the traders decent toilet facilities for both men and women and one borehole at Bamoi. The site for the construction of the toilets and borehole was identified by the chairman of the traders.
