Tombo Community Team has emerged victorious in the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) Inter-Coastal Gala Competition, defeating Bonthe Community by a score of three goals to one (3-1).
The match began with Bonthe Community displaying impressive skill, taking an early lead just 15 minutes into the game when a player wearing jersey number 7 executed a clinical volley. The first half concluded with Bonthe Community ahead 1-0, capitalising on their opportunities.
After halftime, both teams returned to the field, but Tombo Community quickly turned the tide, creating numerous challenges for their opponents and scoring three goals in the second half.
James Michael Koroma, the Assistant Coach of Tombo Community, acknowledged the strength of their opponents but emphasised that his team’s ability to seize their chances led to their victory in this inaugural edition of the MFMR Inter-Coastal Gala Competition. He expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support and noted their determination to build on this winning momentum as they prepare for next year’s edition.
Joseph Cole, a member of the Bonthe Community Team, reflected on their strong start and early lead in the first half but admitted that a loss of focus in the second half ultimately cost them the match.
Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Madam Princess Dougba, stated that the competition was organised to promote peace among the eight major coastal communities in the country. She noted the intense competition and the abundance of talent on display. The inaugural edition was colourful and saw high participation from all involved communities.
As a reward, Tombo Community Team took home 25,000 new Leones, while the runners-up, Bonthe Community, received 15,000 new Leones. Conakry Dee Community Team secured third place with a prize of 10,000 new Leones.
The MFMR Inter-Coastal Gala Competition concluded with trophies awarded to all participating teams, leaving attendees filled with excitement from this historic tournament.
