To Achieve Food Security…Hon. Sylvester Bioma Calls For More Budget Allocation To Agriculture

 The outspoken honorable member of Parliament representing the people of Moyamba District Hon. Capt. Rtd. Sylvester A.M Bioma during the debate on the motion of thanks to His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s address in the Chamber of Parliament.

 He used the opportunity to commend President Bio’s dedication service to the nation and went on to outline some of the challenges in the agriculture sector.

Making his submission, the erudite MP said the speech of the President laid the foundational truth for the development of the nation.

He zoomed in on Feed Salone Initiative and went on to say that agriculture is the bedrock for the development of the nation and went on to note that for the Feed Salone Initiative to succeed, everyone should come on board.

 He referred to an agricultural report which stated that Sierra Leone is far behind in agricultural productivity and urged the Agriculture Ministry to foster collaboration with Njala University, SLARI, and other agriculture sectors to promote agricultural productivity.

He also said that data collection is very important in the achievement of agricultural productivity and went on to cite reasons for such. He pleaded with the Agriculture Ministry to create several agriculture units geared towards addressing agricultural implementation of the Feed Salone Initiatives by the President.

The MP alluded to the fact that Moyamba District is blessed with available land for agricultural productivity in varieties of crops and livestock. “Let us help the president in this drive and thus help the citizenry for food security”, he concluded.
