The District Deputy Agriculture Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture Kono District has assured the people of Kono of sufficient food.
Brima S. Bangura made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with this medium on the World Food Safety Day Celebration which is set aside by World Food Program every year as this year’s theme is “Safety food Today for a Healthy Tomorrow”.
Mr. Brima S. Bangura further said that the Government is working very hard through the Ministry of Agriculture to support farmers with tractors and seedlings for farming.
Meanwhile, in 2018, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed that June every year is to be celebrated as World Food Safety Day, the observance is jointly facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as this day is celebrated to avoid food borne illnesses caused by bacteria, illness or parasite which are infections and toxic. They can enter the body through contaminated food and water.
However, with an estimated 600 million cases of food borne illness annually, unsafe food is a threat to human health and the economy, disproportionally affecting vulnerable and marginalised people, especially women and children.
On her part, the District Nutritionist, Madam Kadiatu B. Koroma attached to District Health Management Team foremost underscored that, the world food Safety Day is a day worth celebrating and the day is to manage and take good care of their food for the betterment of all, she stated.
