Residents of small Sefadu ,Penduma, Maima two and Doechekor in Gbense and Kamara chiefdoms in kono District have said that, the activities of thieves in the aforesaid communities will prevent them from benefiting from the feed Salone initiative of the president Bio led government. People in the aforementioned chiefdoms according to reports purely depend on mining and agricultural activities to take care of their families. When talking to A-Z the town chief of Maima two in Kamara chiefdom kono District chief Sahr Michael Kono noted that the activities of thieves in his town have become unbearable and as a result People are now leaving the said village to settle in the other surrounding villages where they could work and realize the benefits of their labour. Chief kono continued that few months ago thieves broke into his house and carted away with mining materials and other property worth millions of Leones. He further disclosed that the agricultural activities by farmers in his town have seriously been disturbed as farmers could no longer realize any benefit from their farming products. On his part, the town chief of Doechekor Tamba Amara also explained that the ugly development has frustrated farmers and many of them have decided to substitute farming with mining which he said may affect the livelihood of people in that part of the District. Expressing similar concerns Aiah Bockarie alias pormasu the town chief of Maima one stated that they do work hard on their farms alone but when it’s time for harvest thieves do harvest eighty percent of the farm products which he said has frustrated many farmers. They however called on the Sierra Leone police to provide a water tight security in the aforementioned communities in Gbense and Kamara chiefdoms respectively.
